Fever-Tree has collaborated with Bacardi-owned tequila brand Patrón to create a new citrus tonic water featuring Mexican limes, tangerines and bitter orange.
The beverage has been crafted to pair perfectly with Patrón Tequila and the aim was to create a balance for the sweet citrus and peppery notes of the spirit.
“This is an incredibly exciting collaboration,” said Fever-Tree co-founder Tim Warrillow. “Consumers are increasingly searching for both authenticity and taste.
“Provenance and using the highest quality ingredients is integral to both Fever-Tree and Patrón and that is why, in developing our citrus tonic, we travelled across Mexico to discover the passionate producers growing the finest citrus fruits enabling us to create a mixer to perfectly complement Patrón Tequila.”
The ingredient hunting took Tim and the Fever-Tree team to Colima and Michoacán to source Key limes and Tahitian limes, before heading to Vera Cruz to find the ideal tangerines. Then it was on to Yucatán, where they discovered the perfect bitter oranges to sit with Fever-Tree’s quinine.
Patrón Tequila global CMO Lee Applbaum said: “It’s the perfect pairing between two pioneering brands. Together we are recruiting new customers and changing preconceptions. It showcases the versatility of Patrón and mixability of Fever-Tree tonic.”
Fever-Tree USA marketing director Amanda Stackman added: “We are seeing a massive revival of simple, long mixed drinks, both among professional bartenders and home enthusiasts. Like Patrón Tequila, Fever-Tree offers limitless versatility.
“Naturally, gin is the most popular pairing for our tonic. That said, our premium mixers can be enjoyed across many categories of spirits. What is brand new and unprecedented here is this highly customised collaboration.”
Earlier this year Fever-Tree opened a new US headquarters in Brooklyn and took over direct control of its US operations through its subsidiary in the country, Fever-Tree USA.
Bacardi announced it would buy Mexican brand Patrón for $5.1 billion in January, almost a decade after taking a significant minority stake.
