Alpla and Texplast bolster PET recycling partnership

Alpla and Texplast have intensified their PET recycling partnership by adding a new €4.5 milllion extrusion line at Texplast’s Wolfen site in Germany, which will increase the recycling capacity for food‐safe PET regranulate by 15,000 tonnes each year.

The new line will be the third extrusion line at the FROMM Plastics subsidiary’s Wolfen site, and will increase annual recycling capacity at the site to 27,000 tonnes of PET regranulate annually.
The new extrusion line is expected to become operational in 2019.

Alpla and Texplast have been working together since July 2018, with Texplast producing the raw materials before Alpla uses its expertise and network to return the materials to the recyclable material cycle in Europe, and in Germany in particular.

Georg Lässer, head of recycling at Alpla said: “The demand for recycled plastics is continuously increasing. In order to provide our clients with the amounts needed, we must step up our recycling activities. With Texplast as a partner, we have access to high‐quality recyclable material in the German market.

“We are also securing ourselves expertise and experience in logistics and using the existing network with food retail.”

Matthias Schäfer, a Texplast representative added: “By collaborating with Alpla, we have closed the bottle cycle.

“We recycle the returnable goods from the food retail industry and turn them into high‐quality, food‐safe granulate from which Alpla produces preforms for new PET beverage bottles.”
