Serac’s recently launched BluStream cap sterilisation technology is designed to eliminate distorting issues associated with the high temperatures of chemical sterilization.
Using a low-energy e-beam treatment that can be administered at room temperature, BluStream can generate a six-log bacteriological reduction in one second without any chemicals. Ebeam is a physical, dry treatment which works by dispensing a beam of electrons over the surface of the product. The electrons quickly destroy the microorganisms by breaking their DNA chains. According to Serac, the low-energy electron beams do not penetrate the treated material, and therefore will not affect the internal structure of the cap.
Designed for use on bottling lines of non-refrigerated and ESL 90 day beverages, the sterilisation technology can also be monitored in real-time. With a highly compact sterilisation module occupying only three square meters of floorspace, the BluStream is being positioned as an alternative to traditional APA and H2O2 solutions.
