AB InBev’s venture capital division ZX Ventures has secured a deal to acquire UK online beer club and subscription service BeerBods.
In a blog posted on the company’s website, BeerBods founder Matt Lane said the business will join forces with online beer seller Beer Hawk, which was bought by ZX Ventures in 2016.
Based in Worcestershire, BeerBods has “several thousand” subscribers. For £3 a week, its customers receive one bottle of beer delivered every week.
Lane said: “It has become increasingly clear that in order for BeerBods to reach its full potential, we need a partner that can help take us to the next level.”
Post-transaction, Lane and the rest of the BeerBods team will remain in their roles.
Mark Roberts, Beer Hawk co-founder, added: “I’m delighted to welcome Matt and his team into the Beer Hawk family. They are simply the best beer subscription service out there, and have exactly the same passion for beer and ethos as we do – the BeerBods mission of getting more people drinking better beer is such a great fit with our own.”
The announcement comes days after ZX Ventures revealed it will buy the remaining stake in US canned wine company Babe Wine.
Launched as Swish Beverages in 2016, Babe Wine was created with the mission to simplify the wine category by introducing a “fun, inclusive and portable product”.
