Food packaging manufacturer World Centric has expanded its NoTree collection with its release of 100% compostable, tree-free paper cold cups. An alternative to wood paper and petroleum plastic, the new cold cups are produced from sustainably-sourced bamboo paper.
The new NoTree cold cup range is available in three sizes: 12, 16 and 22 ounces. With the intentions of removing bleaching from the manufacturing process, the cups are available in its natural tan colour.
Its bio-based lining prevents leakage and the build up of condensation, while the manufacturing process has meant the cups fit seamlessly with World Centric’s Ingeo-certified plastic lids which are made from plants grown in the US.
The tree-free product has met FDA guidelines, is BPI Certified and will compose in 3-6 months in a commercial composting system, as part of World Centric’s vision to reduce environmental impact.
“We’re proud to be a market leader in creating innovative, sustainable products for the food service industry, while reducing our use of paper made from trees,” said senior vice president of sales Mark Stephany.
“Our new cold cup collection gives restaurants and other food service providers an alternative that is better for the environment, and meets consumer demand for more sustainable practices.”
World Centric states that they are committed to finding alternatives to traditional paper cups made from trees, in aid of protecting the forests and the wildlife and indigenous cultures that depend on them. Previous products within the NoTree line have been made from sugarcane paper and its recent choice of bamboo is reportedly a fast-growing, renewable alternative to traditional tree fibre.
The bamboo cold cup is the latest addition to World Centric’s existing range of 100% certified compostable foodservice ware available throughout North America. The new line of NoTree cold cups will be available nationwide in September.
