Arla Foods Ingredients has released a 100% whey protein isolate that it says overcomes the taste and mouthfeel issues that have long challenged manufacturers of clear protein waters.
Called Lacprodan ISO.Water, the ingredient is specially designed for clear beverages.
According to Arla, some brands have been reluctant to launch new clear protein waters due to challenges with taste and dry mouthfeel.
“Protein waters are a fantastic way to offer consumers healthy protein in a convenient, refreshing and low-calorie format,” said Troels Laursen, director, health and performance nutrition at Arla Foods Ingredients.
“However, the one box they haven’t previously ticked is great taste. Lacprodan ISO.Water overcomes that challenge, paving the way for products with a far wider range of flavours. It will set a new standard for clear protein waters that taste great as well as meeting nutritional needs.”
Arla Foods Ingredients will showcase the new product at Food Ingredients Europe from 3 to 5 December in Paris.
Earlier this year, Arla Foods Ingredients announced the development of a low-volume, high-protein nutritional supplement for medical purposes.
The beverage prototype has 10g of protein per 100ml shot, making it suitable for patients who require whey protein in a low-volume nutritional treatment.
