This week’s podcast features some significant acquisitions in the beef and dairy industry, an investment in the growing kombucha market and a home brewing experience.
One of last week’s most significant stories saw Brazilian meat company Marfrig Global Foods buy an additional 31% stake in National Beef Packing for $860 million.
Last year, Marfrig acquired 51% of the US company from Jefferies Financial Group and other shareholders in a deal worth $969 million, as it aimed to consolidate its position in the beef industry.
Another significant investment last week saw DSM secure a deal to acquire dairy solutions provider CSK Food Enrichment for around €150 million. With the purchase, DSM aims to strengthen its product portfolio and expertise in the food and beverage sector.
In the beverage industry meanwhile, Molson Coors has announced a multiyear partnership with beverage incubator LA Libations. The two companies have worked together during the past year as LA Libations assisted Molson Coors with the expansion of its Clearly Kombucha brand, which it acquired in June last year.
Staying with Kombucha, Fermented Sciences, the maker of hard kombucha brand Flying Embers, has closed a $25 million Series B funding round. Fermented Sciences claims that the investment will help the company to accelerate growth, expand its footprint in the US and innovate to create additional alcoholic beverage lines.
Elsewhere, Australian authorities have conditionally approved the proposed acquisition of infant formula producer Bellamy’s Australia by China Mengniu Dairy. The $1.02 billion deal was announced in September but still needed approval from Australian regulatory authorities, including the Foreign Investment Review Board and the New South Wales Supreme Court.
