Nestlé has announced that all plastic bottles used by its Henniez mineral water brand now contain at least 75% recycled PET (rPET) plastic.
According to Nestlé, Henniez bottles were already made using 30% rPET since 2013, but this has now been increased as the company progresses towards its commitment to using one-third less virgin plastic by 2025.
The Henniez brand has also stated its ambition to move to 100% rPET bottles made from locally recycled plastic in future.
Alessandro Rigoni, general manager of Nestlé Waters Switzerland, said: “With 75% recycled plastic in all our Henniez plastic bottles, we are clearly committed to this highly efficient circular economy.”
Several of Nestlé s water brands have made moves to increase the number of recycled materials in their plastic bottled in the recent past.
Last year, Belgian brand Valvert shifted its entire plastic bottle portfolio to 100% rPET, France-based Vittel launched a bottle entirely made of recycled PET, while British water brand Buxton announced its complete range will be packaged in bottles made from 100% rPET by 2021.
This latest development comes three weeks after Nestlé announced that it would invest up to CHF 2 billion ($2.08 billion) to accelerate the development of innovative sustainable packaging solutions and expedite the shift from virgin plastics to recycled plastics.
