Mochi ice cream brand Little Moons has opened a new £3.5 million production facility in London, in a move to expand its UK operations.
Located in Park Royal, the company says its new state-of-the-art factory will help meet the increasing demand for mochi ice cream from trade customers and retailers in the UK and internationally.
According to Little Moons, the new factory will increase production four-fold and will enable the creation of different lines for gluten-free and vegan consumers.
Over the next years, the factory will create a further 150 new jobs opportunities.
Established in 2010, Little Moons is a family run company that offers a range of mochi ice cream balls which launched in retailers in August 2015.
Mochi is made from a naturally gluten-free rice flour dough, which is pounded and beaten until it attains its distinctive soft and chewy texture.
Most recently, the brand launched its Cookie Dough Ice Cream Bites, which enveloped creamy vanilla ice cream and chocolate chunks in chocolate chip cookie dough.
“The world has embraced the mochi and more recently our Cookie Dough Ice Cream Bites. Our expansion reflects the increasing demand for mochi’s from both retailers and trade and will enable us to accelerate innovation which is super exciting,” said co-founder of Little Moons Howard Wong.
Vivien Wong, co-founder of Little Moons, said: “When you start a food business the first thing people tell you is outsource production. Well we didn’t and it was a great decision as we have full control over the innovation process, quality control and flexibility.
“We have a highly skilled team and we are looking forward to bringing on more local talent to continue developing our wonderful products for the world to enjoy. Everyone deserves a mochi moment.”
