UK-based Roberts Bakery is entering the snacking category with the launch of a new ‘breakfast-inspired’ range this September.
A source of fibre, Roberts’ Porridge Loaf is made with oats and will be available in apple, raisin and cinnamon, and cranberry and coconut flavours.
The Pangel, a high-protein pancake-bagel fusion, comes in two flavours: raspberry and chia, and chocolate and coffee.
Combining a soft brioche bun with a swirl of cookie, the Brookie will be available in chocolate orange, and apple and cinnamon flavours.
Each snack reportedly contains less than 250kcal and comes individually wrapped in compostable packaging.
Roberts’ new ready-to-eat offerings are designed to be enjoyed by both adults and children, at any time of the day, and are said to make ‘a particularly good addition to lunchboxes’.
Alison Ordonez, innovation director at Roberts Bakery, said: “Five months ago, when we were preparing to launch this range, we were targeting an OTG [on-the-go] consumer in a market set to top £23 billion by the end of 2022. Since the outbreak of the pandemic – thanks to the agility of our brand and operations – we’ve quickly adapted to take advantage of new opportunities.
“We know that high levels of uncertainty, combined with restrictions on movement at the height of the pandemic, had an adverse effect on the mental wellbeing of consumers, which in turn saw them snack more to escape.
“As we ease out of lockdown, there is certainly an increased demand for better-for-you snacks that still offer escapism without conflicting with health goals. We know that most shoppers are now trying to eat and drink healthier. This new range meets their needs perfectly – being healthy nutrient-rich snacks that taste great too.”
The range will be available from 7 September, for an RRSP of £1.25 per item, in convenience stores, including Spar and McColl’s. It will also be available from doorstep milk delivery services Mortons Dairies and The Modern Milkman Dairy.
