ADM has announced plans to build a new facility in Valencia, Spain, as it looks to ramp up production of its microbiome solutions in response to growing demand.
The expansion project represents a five-fold increase in probiotics production capacity through ADM Biopolis.
The facility will produce a wide range of probiotics and postbiotics to meet demand for new solutions in areas including weight management, skin health, immune health, gut health, oral health and fertility.
“Our new Valencia facility will feature leading-edge technology and dramatically enhance our ability to meet fast-growing demand for products and solutions from nature, designed to target the microbiome and help improve metabolic health,” said Ian Pinner, chief strategy and innovation officer, and president of ADM’s health and wellness division.
“Consumers today are increasingly focusing on the foundational role food plays in supporting health and wellness, and our continued investment in these growth areas ensures that ADM is perfectly positioned to meet their needs.”
The new facility will be co-located with ADM’s flavour production plant in Valencia, and is expected to be operational in 2022.
In 2018, ADM acquired UK-based probiotic supplement manufacturer Probiotics International Limited in a £185 million deal.
