US beverage brand Big Easy Bucha is launching a new line of sparkling probiotic tepache beverages that also contain prebiotics.
The sparkling fruit-sweetened drink originates from Mexico and is popular among bartenders, but until now the brand says the drink has not been bottled and sold in the US.
Big Easy Tepache is the latest beverage from the brand that promotes gut health benefits, joining its line of all-natural kombucha and probiotic juice shots.
Made with a touch of organic fruit, the line is available in three tropically-inspired flavours: pineapple, mango and prickly pear. The fermented drink is also organic, vegan and non-GMO certified.
Compared to kombucha, which usually only contains probiotics, tepache also delivers a serving of prebiotics from organic blue agave inulin, with each bottle containing 3g of fibre per serving.
Each bottle of Big Easy Tepache also contains 70 calories and claims to have a third less sugar than a 12oz can of soda.
Austin Sherman, co-founder of Big Easy, said: “Tepache is a beloved fermented fruit drink in Mexico, and is now a staple mixer at many craft cocktail bars. Consumers who have tried our Tepache have consistently said it’s so delicious they forget they’re drinking something healthy.”
The first bottles of Big Easy Tepache are launching this month in Publix supermarkets, followed by Sprouts stores nationwide and Albertson’s Southern California.
