Massachusetts-based company Phenolaeis has introduced functional dark chocolate that is made using its sustainable palm fruit extract.
Available for white labelling, Phenolaeis says its product is ideal for formulators who want to launch healthier chocolate products with greater polyphenolic content.
Sustainably produced in Mexico, Phenolaeis’ palm fruit extract is water-soluble and available in powder form. The non-GMO plant complex is made up of at least five natural polyphenols, fibres, carbohydrates and protein.
Phenolaeis claims that the palm fruit extract adds cognitive, cardiovascular and sports nutritional support to chocolate, with research studies suggesting the ingredient activates a wide range of antioxidant pathways and the potential to improve wellness.
According to the company, adding palm fruit extract to chocolate reduces bitterness and enhances creaminess. It can also be used in sugar-free stevia applications as it reportedly reduces off-notes.
Phenolaeis is currently investing in a portfolio of applications using its palm fruit extract and various cacaos. The company says it can easily be incorporated into multiple types of chocolate delivery systems and finished applications, such as chocolate-coated healthy grain or protein bars to RTD beverages.
Phenolaeis’ chocolate with its palm fruit extract is available now for white label in both dark and milk chocolate bars in short runs for companies to test market appeal.
