Kraft Heinz has detailed plans to release a circular PET tomato ketchup bottle by 2022 in its latest Environmental Social Governance report.
The company has made progress towards its aim of using 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable packaging by 2025.
This includes its 100% recyclable and compostable Maxwell House coffee pod made from plant-based materials in Canada, and its partnership with waste-free shop Loop in the UK.
In 2021, the business unveiled Heinz tomato ketchup’s first 100% recyclable cap, and plans to roll out its first circular tomato ketchup PET bottle to the European market in 2022.
Miguel Patricio, Kraft Heinz CEO, said: “We are committed to holding ourselves to a higher standard, stepping up to the plate to boldly address the environmental and societal challenges we face today and those that lie ahead”.
Kraft Heinz aims to decrease its water use by 20% in high-risk areas and by 15%, its energy use by 15% and its waste to landfill footprint by 20% across its sites.
