UK company Sykes Seafood has reached an agreement to acquire Ruskim Seafoods, creating a $500 million pan-European shrimp-focused business.
Ruskim is a supplier of seafood products to the UK and Irish wholesale and Asian food sectors.
Ruskim, together with Sykes and Dutch shrimp business Klaas Puul, which was acquired by Sykes in 2019, will offer a range of seafood products for the retail, wholesale and foodservice sectors.
According to Sykes, the combined businesses will operate from five manufacturing facilities across the UK, Europe and Morocco, as well as ten distribution centres, employing over 3,900 people.
Ruskim’s managing director, Bill Mooney, said: “Over the past 40 years, we have established Ruskim as a major importer and distributor of seafood, with trading partners throughout the world. We are now excited to be joining…Sykes which will enable Ruskim to improve and expand its operations by utilising the processing plants operated by Sykes and Klaas Puul and to share their extensive network of suppliers.”
