Cana Technology, the start-up that was building a molecular beverage printer, has shut down.
According to a LinkedIn post from a former employee, the company could not secure funding and had to shut down as a result.
Cana’s molecular beverage printer prototype, announced at the beginning of 2022, could produce high-vitamin post-workout recovery drinks, low-alcohol mimosas, or low-sugar iced teas – providing consumers with the option to customise their beverages.
The news comes only two months after the company announced that actor Patrick Stewart had joined as a brand ambassador in a bid to raise awareness of Cana’s mission of decarbonising the beverage industry.
Cana’s first product, Cana One, was expected to begin shipments to customers later this year.
Marian Farah, previously head of data science at Cana Technology, said in the LinkedIn post: “Despite developing a fully functional product and securing brand partners, Cana, unfortunately, faced a lack of critical funding necessary to build a production line for manufacturing and shipping devices”.
FoodBev Media reached out to Cana Technology for comment.
