Foreign sales of mineral waters, drinks and aperitifs of the historic brand, from Acqua Panna to Sanbitter, have grown by 17% compared to 2009.
Exports represent a major leverage for the business of Italy’s leading mineral water firm. The nerve centre of production destined for export is the Bergamo production site, which reached and exceeded production of a billion bottles (of which 700m were bottles of S.Pellegrino mineral water). About 70% of the overall production was absorbed by export.
In spite of the economic downturn and curbs on consumption, exports continued to grow, in particular in markets such as the US, France, Germany and the UK.
These are backed by emerging markets to which the company is turning its attention, as witnessed by the consistent growth of sales in China (+183%), Brazil (+80%), Russia and the CIS, and the Middle East.
