LifeTop Cap is a bottle closure developed to create shelf-stable probiotic drinks. It allows sensitive ingredients – such as vitamins, minerals, flavours and probiotics – to be stored and protected separately from the bottle’s contents, to allow for a longer shelf life.
The ingredient is released into the drink by pushing the top of the cap, popping a blister in the cap. The principle is built on the fact that sensitive ingredients that cannot be included in the drink are placed in a protective container in the cap and are first mixed into the drink at the time of consumption.
Aqua Scandik has plans to launch a bottled water with three different flavours using BioGaia’s probiotic bacillus Lactobacillus reuteri. The products will be sold under the name Bio Scandik. Due to the rather extensive registration work for L. reuteri, Aqua Scandik expects to launch the products at the beginning of 2010.
“Mexico is one of the world’s largest drinks markets and we’re very happy to be able to initiate a collaboration with Aqua Scandik to launch LifeTop Cap with L. reuteri on this very exciting market,” said Staffan Pålsson, President of CapAble.
CapAble signed a similar agreement with the US health drink company Mass Probiotics LLC in December 2008.
“It’s very positive that CapAble has achieved its second contract within such a short time,” said Peter Rothschild, President of BioGaia.
The financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
