Aspire Bakeries, formerly Aryzta North America, has announced an expansion project at its bakery in Newark, California, as it looks to keep up with demand for its Otis Spunkmeyer cookies.
The project includes the addition of a new frozen cookie dough line, with production set to start in the autumn.
According to Aspire Bakeries, the new line will increase its capacity for Otis Spunkmeyer branded and custom frozen cookie dough, which is sold to foodservice, retail and convenience operators to be baked on-site.
The former Aryzta unit changed its name to Aspire Bakeries earlier this year, following its acquisition by private equity firm Lindsay Goldberg.
As part of its latest announcement, the company has also said that work is underway to build a sweet baked goods innovation lab at the Newark site, which will develop products such as cookies, muffins, bars and cakes.
The lab will be an end-to-end product development centre – creating baked goods for Otis Spunkmeyer and its customers – and will feature “the latest commercial equipment”, such as combination ovens and analytical instruments.
