In Mexico, poultry company Industrias Bachoco has reached an agreement to invest in Sonora Agropecuaria, a pork processor and distributor with operations in the states of Sonora and Jalisco.
With a production capacity of about 15,000 swine per week, Sonora Agropecuaria is one of the ten principle pork processors in Mexico, according to Bachoco.
Sonora’s products are sold both domestically and abroad.
“This agreement will make synergies with our actual live swine business, while allowing us to accelerate our rhythm of growth and continue to move forward in the process of diversification on other animal proteins,” said Rodolfo Ramos, Bachoco CEO.
“We will look to complete this process at the beginning of 2020 and capture the opportunities we have identified.”
Founded in 1952, Industrias Bachoco is headquartered in Celaya, Guanajuato, and employs more than 27,000 people. Its main business lines are chicken, eggs, balanced feed, swine and “other products”.
In 2017, the company acquired Alabama-based Albertville Quality Foods, a manufacturer of consumer meat products including chicken strips and breakfast sausage.
