Cake and dessert manufacturer Bright Blue Foods (BBF) has expanded its bakery portfolio with the acquisition of Sargents Bakery for an undisclosed sum.
The combined business will have a turnover of almost £200 million and will employ more than 1,700 people across six sites.
According to the statement, Doncaster-based Sargents has recently passed through “a very challenging time”, and BBF was therefore “keen to step in immediately” to protect both the business’s employees and continued supply to its customers.
Additionally, the deal, which was funded through existing BBF facilities, will allow the firm to offer customers “greater flexibility and innovation”.
Private equity firm Endless acquired BBF in September 2015.
