The demand for natural ingredients is increasing substantially, as many consumers are turning their backs on products which contain artificial ingredients in favour of products which they perceive as healthier and more natural.
Founded in 2003, Biorigin is a Brazilian biotechnology company that produces natural ingredients for flavour enhancement; sodium reduction; shelf life extension for food products; and for animal nutrition enrichment and health.
The company’s range of natural ingredients includes yeast extracts and derivatives, which can be used to develop and balance various taste notes such as savoury and umami in a range of applications, including bakery, plant-based meat alternatives, soups, sauces and more.
FoodBev spoke with Maria Helena Manhão Branco, global food application specialist at Biorigin, about the company’s range of natural ingredients, and how these solutions can benefit food and beverage manufacturers.
We also discussed some of the most influential trends affecting the industry, such as the growth of plant-based products and how to create ‘great-tasting’ plant-based alternatives to meat, as well as the importance of sustainability and traceability in the supply chain.
