Japanese chemicals company DIC Corporation has invested in Vaxa Technologies, an Israel-based biotech start-up that cultivates microalgae for human and fish nutrition applications.
Headquartered in Rosh Pina, Vaxa Technologies is working to develop and commercialise clean, high-value-added algae products.
The company uses proprietary light-emitting diode (LED) illuminated photobioreactors and algae cultivation technologies.
According to DIC, Vaxa Technologies’ cultivation process employs renewable energy and consumes significantly less land and fresh water than conventional methods.
The company’s process also converts discharged CO2 into useful materials, making it carbon negative.
The new partnership brings together DIC’s algae expertise and Vaxa Technologies’ algae cultivation technology. DIC says that its investment is part of a strategic expansion of its businesses around health foods and other algae-derived products.
