The Urgent Company, a new consumer packaged goods company, has launched a new ice cream brand in the US made with Perfect Day’s animal-free whey protein.
Brave Robot marks The Urgent Company’s premier brand, as it claims to focus on next generation natural foods which harness innovation and science to create great tasting and sustainable animal-free foods.
The new range of ice cream is made with Perfect Dairy’s non-animal whey protein which the food tech start-up claims is identical to the proteins found in cow’s milk.
Described as having a “creamy indulgent taste and animal-free, planet-positive benefits”, Brave Robot is lactose free, cholesterol free and vegan.
The animal-free protein is combined with chunks and inclusions to create eight flavours of Brave Robot ice cream: PB ‘N Fudge, Buttery Pecan, Blueberry Pie and Hazelnut Chocolate Chunk, Vanilla, A Lot of Chocolate, Vanilla ‘N Cookies and Raspberry White truffle. The brand says that additional flavours are in development.
“Brave Robot is truly the best of both worlds, without sacrificing the ice cream experience or the environment. We are excited to bring animal-free dairy to consumers, creating a new ice cream category at retail that we can run with,” said Paul Kollesoff, co-founder and general manager at The Urgent Company.
Since its establishment in 2014, Perfect Day has been developing and scaling a method for producing functional protein through the fermentation of microflora and plant sugars. It recently completed a second tranche of Series C funding, bringing the total raised in the round to $300 million.
Ryan Pandya, CEO and co-founder of Perfect Day, added: “Perfect Day makes animal-free dairy products delicious, but we don’t make consumer products.
“That’s where The Urgent Company comes in — created to push the envelope and harness today’s most exciting innovations that seed a compelling, mission-critical point of view; one we think consumers are hungry for, and one embodied by Brave Robot’s indulgently bold brand and products.”
Each tub of Brave Robot ice cream is available to purchase for an RRP of $5.99 online and in retail locations across Northern California.
