Pernod-Ricard owned Scotch whisky brand Chivas Brothers has launched a range of four 13-year-old whiskies as part of a new global collection.
The Chivas Extra 13 collection reportedly blends Scotch heritage with flavourful casks.
Each cask during the whisky-making process contributes to its own unique combination, delivering four different flavour notes: Spanish Oloroso Sherry, Caribbean Rum, American Rye, and Mexican Tequila.
According to the brand, the new collection is inspired by the founders James and John Chivas who imported rums, exotic spices and luxury food items from across the globe to their emporium at 13 King Street, Aberdeen.
With its cask maturation process, Oloroso Sherry Cask is said to deliver a richer finish, with hints of sweet ripe pears in syrup, vanilla caramel, cinnamon sweets and almonds.
The rum variation, meanwhile, offers a sweet finish with rich flavours of orange, apricot jam and honey offset by warm and spicy cinnamon flavours.
American Rye Cask combines the flavours of sweet orange and creamy milk chocolate, while the selective tequila cask delivers hints of grapefruit and pineapple.
Each expression features artwork by renowned street artist Greg Gossel blending images from the company’s history with contemporary designs celebrating each finishing cask’s heritage.
Sandy Hyslop, director of blending at Chivas, said: “The Extra 13 collection represents new territory for Chivas as we continue to open up the world of Scotch whisky to new audiences and fresh experiences.
“At Chivas we believe that blended is better – and nowhere is this more evident than with our new collection, which blends exceptional Scotch with a diverse, internationally-inspired palette of flavours.”
The new collection is available globally in select markets, while the Chivas Extra 13 Rum Cask will be available from July exclusively via travel retail outlets.
