Corbion has announced a number of concurrent expansion projects to significantly increase its capacity for producing lactic acid and lactic acid derivatives.
The global initiative is expected to produce additional output roughly equivalent to a new production site.
The Dutch food and biochemicals company says that the expansion efforts involve capital expenditures at four of its existing facilities “to maximise efficiencies and leverage synergies”.
Projects at Corbion production sites in the Netherlands, Thailand, Brazil and Spain will increase the supply of lactic acid for the company’s customers in Europe and other regions.
The news follows Corbion’s recent announcement of an investment to expand its lactic acid production capacity at its Blair, Nebraska facility.
The company is also planning a major expansion of capacity in Thailand with the construction of a new lactic acid plant at its existing site in Rayong.
“Our business in lactic acid-based solutions is growing because it’s highly relevant to some significant global challenges such as reducing food waste, creating biobased plastics and providing effective sanitising solutions against the coronavirus,” said Frederik Feddes, vice president lactic acid & specialties at Corbion.
“Corbion has the advantage of a long track record in this market, and it’s a market we understand very well. As the global market leader, it is our priority to continue supplying and supporting our customers to help them bring innovative, sustainable products to the world.”
