US-based Country Crock has launched a new dairy-free plant butter, offering an alternative to its original buttery spread. The butter producer claims it offers ‘the taste of butter, made from plants’.
The dairy alternative is made with plant-based oils and features oils from olives, avocados and almonds. As well as being gluten-free and kosher-certified, Country Crock’s plant butter has been certified plant-based by the Plant Based Foods Association (PBFA) making it suitable for vegan diets.
Country Crock offers a range of olive oil, almond oil or avocado oil plant-based butters in either 10.5oz tubs or 16oz sticks. The tubs contain 40% less saturated fat than dairy butter per tablespoon serving, while the sticks contain 25% less.
According to the American company, production of plant-based butter results in less than half the greenhouse gas emissions as the production of dairy butter. Its packaging is recyclable per instructions on the label.
As part of its new release, Country Crock has launched a new campaign to demonstrate how much its plant-based alternative tastes like dairy butter, as well as working with celebrity food expert, Antoni Porowski.
Country Crock is currently owned by Upfield, with headquarters in Amsterdam the global plant-based company operates in 95 countries. Other notable brands owned by Upfield include Flora, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, Rama and Proactive. The consumer goods company was offloaded from Unilever and purchased by investment firm KKR in 2018.
Brian Orlando, Chief Marketing Officer for Upfield North America said: “We believe that plant-based eating has a positive impact on health and on the environment, and that plant-based food products should taste delicious.
“That’s why we set out to make a dairy-free butter that home cooks, chefs and bakers could cook, bake and spread with just like butter. We created a truly breakthrough product and have been so excited to see the response when people try it. We’re turning even the biggest butter lovers out there into Country Crock Plant Butter lovers.”
Country Crock Plant Butter is available across the US for a suggested retail price of $3.49 for its stick format and $2.49 for a tub.
