Ebro Foods will invest more than €150 million into developing its new global sustainability plan called Rumbo A 2030.
Launched yesterday, the plan sets out goals and actions to be developed by the group up to 2030, with a focus in the areas of environment, and health and social well-being.
Rumbo A 2030 focuses its commitment on three pillars of action: people, healthy eating and well-being, and the planet.
Fundamental areas of Rumbo A 2030 include guaranteeing the environmental efficiency, adjusting to effects of climate change and ensuring the sustainability of its raw materials with 100% achieved by 2030.
With regards to people, Ebro Foods has claimed that it will pay special attention to the welfare of its employees, offer continuous training and career development, as well as increasing the ratio of women in its ranks.
In terms of the planet, the Spanish company intends to set up programmes to reduce its water consumption, reuse and recover the waste generated at its plants, eliminate the use of non-reusable plastics and aim for 100% of its packaging to be recyclable or reusable.
The food processing company also states its plans to reduce the quantity of packaging materials, ensure that 100% of its paper and cardboard from forests are managed in accordance with FSC/PFSC standards, in addition to reducing its carbon footprint through reducing emissions and transport.
Finally, in the area of well-being, the group plans to invest into research and development and offer consumers a broad variety of healthy products. In the past two years, Ebro has launched 25 new products with a high value added, which was made possible to its five R&D centres in France, the US and Spain.
Ebro Foods has launched the website Caring for You and the Planet, where it will inform readers on its progress and fulfilment of the goals.
