Finland’s Fazer is launching a line of Nordic-inspired dark chocolate in the US, as it targets growth in the premium confectionery market.
Called Nordi, the range is going on sale this month with four flavours available: sea buckthorn and salty caramel, hazelnut and campsite coffee, raspberry and tangy licorice, and smooth and dark original.
The products are made using sustainably sourced, non-GMO ingredients at a Fazer production site in Finland. Each bar contains 70% cacao.
Nathalie Ahlstrom, managing director of Fazer Confectionery, said: “Like our founder, Karl Fazer, the fearless pioneer who brought people new ideas and inspiration from all over the world, we value artisanal crafts and pure ingredients to innovate and combine taste sensations that touch upon magic.
The 3.35oz Nordi bars will be available with a suggested retail price of between $3.99 and $4.99.
“We saw a great opportunity to bring our promise ‘Northern Magic. Made Real’ to the US market with our better-for-you, premium chocolate brand that imparts a sense of Nordic adventure through the taste of chocolate.”
Nordi will be sold in Fairway Market locations in New York this month and will expand nationally into other retailers throughout the year. The 3.35oz bars will be available with a suggested retail price of between $3.99 and $4.99.
Fazer said the launch will be supported with strong consumer and trade marketing programmes and there are already plans to expand the brand in 2020.
In November, Fazer expanded its confectionery offer in Finland with the introduction of a limited-edition ruby chocolate bar.
