AG Barr-owned cocktail brand Funkin has launched a line of dried fruit garnishes in the UK as it seeks to reduce waste and improve cocktail consistency.
The FunkinPRO range consists of four fruits – orange, lemon, strawberry and citrus – which have been sliced and dehydrated in a geothermal and carbon-neutral facility. Unopened, each pack has a shelf life of 12 months.
Funkin said that overheads, staff expertise and speed of service are all key factors when on-trade outlets are looking to make professional yet profitable serves and that its range of garnishes takes out the manpower, equipment costs and waste associated with preparing this type of finishing touch in-house.
Ben Anderson, Funkin head of marketing, said: “Our new range of dried fruit garnishes are a first in the cocktail market and with up to 62% of consumers now saying that having the correct garnish on their cocktail is very important, there has never been a better time for us to launch this innovative new premium product.”
He added: “A key issue for many on-trade outlets with preparing fruit garnishes is the amount of food waste it generates. Food waste is financially and environmentally damaging so by introducing our dried fruit garnishes, outlets will be able to save costs and reduce their impact on the environment.
“The introduction of FunkinPRO dried garnishes is another step towards us offering the bar trade a complete cocktail solution – both inside and outside of the glass.”
Earlier this year, Funkin expanded its range of one-litre pre-batched cocktail mixers with the addition of an espresso martini variant.
