E & J Gallo Winery has acquired Napa Valley’s Pahlmeyer Winery for an undisclosed sum, as it continues to invest in the luxury wine market.
The deal includes the purchase of both the Pahlmeyer and Jayson by Pahlmeyer wine brands, who are known for producing Bordeaux-style wines that range in price from $30 to $350.
These two brands will join Gallo’s premium portfolio that includes Apothic, Carnivor, Chateau Souverain and Columbia Winery.
Roger Nabedian, senior vice-president and general manager of Gallo’s premium wine division, said: “We are thrilled to continue working with both Jayson and his daughter Cleo as we incorporate the esteemed Pahlmeyer brands into our luxury portfolio.
“Pahlmeyer compliments our portfolio nicely, allowing Gallo to continue competing in luxury wine and fuelling strategic growth for the company.”
As part of the deal, Gallo will lease Waters Ranch, a vineyard in Atlas Peak, and will continue to operate the Jayson tasting room that opened at Vista Collina Resort in August last year.
Wayfarer brand and Wayfarer Vineyard are not included in the sale and will continue to be manged by the president of the company Cleo Pahlymer.
“I am thrilled to transition ownership of Pahlmeyer Winery to the Gallo family,” said founder Jayson Pahlmeyer.
Pahlmeyer added: “The two companies share similar principles and, with Gallo’s long-standing commitment to quality, I am confident they will take Pahlmeyer to even greater heights in the future.”
Earlier this year, Gallo acquired around 30 wine and spirits brands and six US winemaking facilities from Constellation Brands wine for $1.7 billion.
