General Mills is expanding its Fiber One breakfast cereal range in the US with a new strawberries and vanilla clusters variant.
Made with steel-cut oats, vanilla clusters and real strawberries, the product is said to contain 35% of the daily recommended value of fibre in every one-cup serving.
General Mills said the cereal represents a tasty way for shoppers to increase their intake of fibre, as it cited figures suggesting that 90% of US consumers are not having enough.
Kim Seifert, senior marketing manager for Fiber One, said: “We’re excited to add Fiber One strawberries and vanilla clusters to our cereal line-up. Fiber One has always been the tasty way to fibre, and by adding real strawberries and vanilla clusters, we know this latest product introduction will delight consumers looking for a new fibre-rich option in the cereal aisle.”
The new variant joins the Fiber One cereal portfolio in the US which also consists of original bran and honey clusters. Strawberries and vanilla clusters is now available with a suggested retail price of $4.29 for a 13oz box.
Last year, General Mills added to its Fibre One snack range in the UK with the launch of cake bars and cinnamon drizzle squares.
In its most recent quarterly results, General Mills recorded a 5.1% increase in net sales, as contributions from its newly-acquired Blue Buffalo pet food brand offset struggling snack sales.
