GetSwift Ltd’s Delivery Biz Pro has secured two new clients in Canada, one offering “fruit-to-office” fresh snack delivery and the other “grass-to-glass” bottled milk and dairy, broadening the software-as-a-service (SaaS) company’s North American footprint.
Cowichan Milk Company Ltd., based on Vancouver Island, has a farm of 50 cows that has been operating for several decades, selling milk directly to British Columbia’s Milk Marketing Board. But when the time came to sell milk directly to customers in individual bottles, the family-owned farm looked to technology from GetSwift for a helping hand.
“It was almost like starting one more business,” said Margie vanBoven, who is a Co-Owner of Cowichan Milk with her husband Matthew. Margie vanBoven said that the first bottle of milk was finished on September 2 last year, and the farm already bottles about one-quarter of its milk, putting it ahead of schedule to meet its goal of total capacity in five years.
GetSwift’s platform “gives us the ability to manage orders online and organize the routes while providing a secure website that we can trust for our customers who use credit cards,” vanBoven said. “We aren’t even using it to full capacity.”
One important feature on the GetSwift platform is the ability to add new products very easily, such as eggs, cheese, honey, and pasta. “To make it worthwhile, we wanted to add farm products that are produced in the area,” vanBoven said. “We have added products beyond milk to keep people interested when they shop the website.”
“Home delivery took off way faster than we ever expected,” she added. “We have 275 customers and it is growing to the point of being overwhelming.”
Cowichan began with four hours of deliveries scheduled one day per week. The farm now has drivers on the road for 22 hours a week between two days and its looking to add a third day of service.
Over in Toronto, Canada’s most populous city, Fruit Suite has a mission to take sugar and junk food out of office pantries and instead stock them with fresh fruit and other healthy snacks. But the complication of managing a large and growing number of orders made Fruit Suite Co-Founder and Chief Banana Sean Finlayson seek out an all-in-one solution.
“The most important thing for us is to have one platform with delivery reporting, inventory, a consumer-friendly website, and accounting all connected,” Finlayson said. “The amount of orders and changes I have been keeping in my head is unbelievable,” adding that he expects to save several hours per week with the GetSwift platform in place.
Fruit Suite has expanded to 350 deliveries a week across Greater Toronto. Customers range in size from C$45 to C$3,000 or C$4,000 a week, creating a large volume of items to track and delivery accurately.
Most Fruit Suite customers have recurring orders and GetSwift’s platform makes it simple to change the weekly item mix at the push of a button. Fruit Suite now gives customers plenty of options to mix up those orders, with 60 to 70 SKUs including fruits, vegetables, and bulk items such as trail mix.
The addition of new items to weekly baskets should boost revenue, Finlayson said. “The sales we hope to see in new products will end up extending beyond the cost of the service.”
