When international beverage giant Heineken Holding entered the Philippines three years ago, it made a promise to local customers: cold beer to your doorstep in under 60 minutes, delivered by motorcycle. To keep its word, Heineken soon realized it needed a state-of-the art routing system and a way to manage countless deliveries. By working with GetSwift Ltd, Heineken got both of those features and more – all in one platform.
“In the Philippines, we find there are so many ways to get to any place we need help choosing the best one,” said Rahul Mahesh, e-commerce manager for AB Heineken Philippines Inc. “GetSwift is far better than any other options we have tried.”
GetSwift, which is headquartered in New York and trades on the Australian Securities Exchange (ticker: GSW), provides a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform to clients worldwide for delivery of everything from cannabis in California to billiard tables in Texas to pizza in Pakistan. The company has expanded even further afield recently, with Heineken using the get GetSwift platform to manage deliveries in Egypt and Malaysia while Pizza Hut has begun using the platform in Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. More countries are expected to adopt the platform going forwards.
In addition to navigation tools, GetSwift allows Heineken to track customer satisfaction and make adjustments accordingly. “The feedback we get is very helpful to see what went wrong or right on a delivery,” Mr. Mahesh said. “It allows us to improve much more quickly.”
Heineken has been able to increase its delivery volume and speed considerably because Mr. Mahesh can monitor the locations of drivers and know how far they are from the nearest warehouse. That knowledge is critical in order to plan deliveries and keep the 60-minute promise.

The pressure to make fast, accurate deliveries is intense as Heineken challenges the incumbent leader, San Miguel. As the newcomer, Heineken has to set itself apart with both a great product but also to impress first-time customers with service such as immediate notifications. “The ability to send a customer an SMS automatically to let them know their beer is on the way is something that people love about the service,” Mr. Mahesh said.
Heineken delivers in Manila, mostly to residences but has begun serving retailers such as convenience stores. “We will use GetSwift for B2B as well,” Mr. Mahesh said.
The beer-drinking population in The Philippines is 44 million people, Heineken estimates. After Manila, Heineken plans to reach more of those people across the country.
“We plan to expand to the top five cities after Manila,” Mr. Mahesh said. “GetSwift will be critical in those cities. It will help us scale up quickly.”
