At Health Ingredients Europe, Epi Ingredients’ marketing manager Mathieu Lucot spoke with FoodBev’s Martin White about the range of natural, clean label ingredients that the company exhibited at the show.
Epi’s main focus was the SoBenefik concept, a high-protein yogurt made with the company’s Epiprot 60 UL protein ingredient, a native milk protein concentrate which was developed earlier this year.
Lucot also spoke about the company’s EMDI (enzyme-modified dairy ingredients) and Epilac fermented dairy ranges, which offer natural, clean label solutions across a wide range of applications.
Lucot also discussed the importance of the clean label trend in general for manufacturers, and the launch of the new Esi Nutrition business unit.
Lucot stressed the importance of natural ingredients in today’s market: “Today, manufacturers don’t want to have e-numbers or synthetic aromas, so we produce 100% natural, clean label solutions.
“Because of this, our customers can claim they have 100% natural aroma of cream or of milk, so the trend is very important for our customers.”
Regarding the new Esi business unit, Lucot said: “Esi Nutrition is a new health and nutrition division which manufacturers finished products for infant nutrition, medical nutrition and clinical nutrition.
“We have 13 years of experience in liquid products, but now we have built a new segment… which will attack new markets, so it is incredibly important for us.”
When asked about the company’ plans for the future, Lucot said: “We will develop ESI Nutrition over the next few years, and our strategy for ingredients is clearly to develop specific ingredients adapted to nutritional markets.
“Final consumers would like to eat better, to have natural products, and that’s why we would like to manufacture ingredients in this area.”
