JBS USA, through its packaged meat subsidiary Plumrose USA, has announced plans to construct a new ready-to-eat facility as part of a $200 million project.
The facility will be used to manufacture Italian meats and other charcuterie products and forms part of the company’s long-term strategy to expand its value-added and branded portfolio.
Whilst Plumrose has not revealed the facility’s exact location, it said it will be on a greenfield site strategically located to efficiently access raw material and leverage synergies with existing corporate assets.
The investment comes over a year after JBS USA announced that it would invest nearly $20 million to expand its Plumrose processing site in Iowa to meet growing demand for bacon products.
“Plumrose USA is uniquely positioned to meet growing consumer demand for great-tasting, high-quality Italian meats, like salami and prosciutto,” said Thomas Lopez, president of Plumrose USA.
He added: “The project reinforces our strategic commitment to grow our business and be a stronger partner for our customers, provide increased opportunities for our team members and realise the full potential of protein.”
The branded packaged meat company became a subsidiary of JBS USA after it was acquired from Danish Crown in 2017. It has more than 85 years of experience providing bacon and a variety of deli products and currently operates six production facilities in Mississippi, Indiana, Iowa and Vermont.
