Kellogg’s has launched a plant-based alternative to beef jerky under its new brand, Leaf Jerky. The company unveiled its new brand at Natural Products Expo East last week in Baltimore.
Suitable for vegans, the soy-based snack will be available in the flavour, cracked peppers and herb. Each 35g serving contains 11g of protein, 80 calories, 0g of saturated fat and 2g of sugar.
Founder of Leaf Jerky, Amy Shouldice said she wanted to create “a vegan, portable protein snack that was delicious enough to share with my meat-loving husband.”
The plant-based jerky uses sustainable ingredients and claims to focus on prioritising plant-based protein options.
Shouldice added: “We set out to create a brand that’s sustainable-from the footprint of our ingredients, to our recyclable packing, to our support for the next generation of sustainable farmers.”
Kellogg plans to launch Leaf Jerky in test markets this year and expand its release in 2020 along with more flavours.
