Kerry has announced that it is investing €30 million to build a second production facility in Indonesia, as it looks to expand its offering for customers in Southeast Asia.
Construction work has begun at the site in Karawang, and the plant will be operational in late 2022.
Representing Kerry’s largest ever capital investment in Southeast Asia, the new facility will significantly expand Kerry’s Taste offering in the region.
The greenfield development will include a flavour manufacturing site, along with a sampling hub and a research and development pilot plant.
A wide range of flavour technologies will be manufactured at the facility, which will support Kerry’s taste business and its food and beverages systems across all food categories.
The site’s design reportedly aligns with the criteria of Kerry’s Beyond the Horizon sustainability strategy.
“The construction of this world-class manufacturing site demonstrates our commitment to our customers in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region,” said Kerry’s CEO Taste, John Savage.
“This new facility will strengthen our competitiveness as we work with customers to deliver our Taste portfolio of solutions and bring excellent and authentic tasting products to market. The Southeast Asian taste market is valued at circa €900m and growing in strong single digits with a huge opportunity for further development and innovation.”
Antoine Nourrain, general manager, Taste APMEA, added: “As part of its goal to create a world of sustainable nutrition, Kerry is committed to meeting the growing demand from customers within Indonesia and Southeast Asia.”
Last year, Kerry announced that it was investing $125 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Rome, Georgia, representing its “largest-ever capital expenditure investment.”
