Molson Coors has broken ground on a new site in Longueuil, Canada, which it says will be its most modern brewing facility and distribution centre to date.
The company said the plant, which is located around 7km from Montreal, will be “the most integrated and agile operation” within Molson Coors Canada. It will service the local domestic market and will produce the company’s portfolio of beer and non-beer brands, in bottles, cans and kegs.
With an area of more than 140 acres, the site is said to offer access to high-quality water, natural-gas conduits, highways, ports and a nearby wastewater treatment plant – meaning it meets the essential criteria for Molson Coors’ modern brewing operations, the company said.
Molson Coors Canada CEO Frederic Landtmeters said: “I’m confident that this new integrated distribution centre and brewery will enable the company to support more efficiently Quebec’s direct store delivery model, to meet the challenging demands of Quebec markets and remain competitive.”
Matthew Hook, chief supply chain officer at Molson Coors Canada, said: “The project will be our most modern and forward-looking production facility and distribution centre.
“The new brewery will be equipped with improved technologies that will allow us to reduce our energy consumption, CO2emissions and carbon footprint, such as optimised equipment layouts to reduce beer loss and waste, and a state-of-the-art CO2 recovery system.”
Longueuil mayor Sylvie Parent added: “Molson’s arrival is a milestone in Longueuil’s business history and proves without any doubt that our city has established itself as a partner of choice for a company of this magnitude, while also serving as a testament to our economic vitality.”
Earlier this year, Molson Coors Canada partnered with Canadian cannabis producer The Hydropothecary Corporation to create a joint venture selling cannabis-infused drinks. Cannabis became legal in Canada last week.
