Nestlé-owned Sweet Earth Foods has announced the launch of its latest plant-based products, the Sweet Earth Awesome Burger and Sweet Earth Awesome Grounds.
The non-GMO Awesome Burger was developed by Sweet Earth’s culinary team with Nestlé support. It is made with US-sourced yellow pea protein, which results in a burger with 26g of protein and 6g of fibre.
According to Sweet Earth, the Awesome Burger satisfies cravings for the meaty, juicy taste of a traditional burger. Meanwhile, the Awesome Grounds are said to provide the same plant-based protein in a ground version that allows greater flexibility to cook various meals and sides, such as meatballs and tacos.
“The Sweet Earth Awesome Burger has a delicious, grilled beefy flavour, great texture and juiciness, with the added benefit of plant-based fibre and protein,” said Kelly Swette, CEO of Sweet Earth Foods.
“We’ve been making delicious plant-based proteins for more than eight years, so the Awesome Burger is a natural evolution of our work in this space. We’re excited for people to find out why we call it Awesome.”
The Sweet Earth Awesome Burger and Grounds are now available at retailers across the US.
Acquired by Nestlé USA in 2017, California-based Sweet Earth has more than 60 plant-based products in its portfolio.
Last month, Nestlé expanded its plant-based product portfolio in Europe with new Garden Gourmet Incredible Mince, alongside the introduction of a “meatier” Incredible Burger.
Nestlé said that like the Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger, which went on sale earlier this year, the new vegan mince “looks and cooks like raw beef” due to its blend of protein from soy, natural plant extracts – beetroot, carrot and bell pepper – and vegetable fats.
