Noblegen, under its new food and ingredient brand Eunite, has launched its first consumer product, a plant-based “whole egg” powder.
The new product, termed “the egg”, is vegan friendly, free from cholesterol and soy, and contains 6g of plant-based protein per serving.
According to Noblegen, its product provides protein that is equivalent to that of a traditional egg but is significantly lower in both calories and fat per serving.
“The amazing thing about ‘the egg’, is that we’ve been able to use it in so many different applications,” said Adam Noble, CEO and founder of Noblegen.
Noble added: “It has successfully replaced eggs in vegan pancakes, stratas, breakfast sandwiches, quiches, and even a chocolate cake. No other plant-based egg scramble can also be used to functionally replace chicken eggs in a cake, ‘the egg.’ can.”
Founded in 2013, Noblegen is a nutritional ingredient company that manufactures protein, carbohydrate, and oil ingredients from a single microorganism called Euglena gracilis. The company intends to provide increasing global accessibility of sustainably produced, healthy ingredients.
Peter Erickson, Noblegen board member, said: “This ingredient shows great promise both in satisfying at home consumer’s needs for simple and versatile nutrition, as well as providing numerous commercial applications where the functionality of whole egg can be substituted with a sustainable, affordable and dependable alternative.”
Noblegen’s new product is available for a limited time on the Eunite website in a tester form for early US adopters. It will be sent to consumers so they can try the product and offer input to the Eunite brand as it continues to develop later versions of “the egg”.
Noble said: “Our Eunite brand is all about uniting people and empowering them to be a part of and have input on what they eat. It gives typical consumers a voice in creating a new food product that meets their daily needs.”
The product is also available for purchase in pouches equivalent to a dozen traditional eggs for $8.99.
