UK-based Nush Foods has launched a range of spreadable cheeses made from almond milk, the ‘first-of-its-kind’ in the UK market.
Available in two flavours, Natural and Chive, the vegan cheese is said to be rich in protein and gut-friendly.
Each tub of Nush Spreadable Cheese contains 60 almonds and is made with all-natural ingredients.
Free-from gluten, soya, preservatives and additives, the new range aims to meet the demand for dairy-free cheese spreads.
Nush Spreadable Cheese joins the start-up’s portfolio of fruit flavoured almond milk yogurts – now available in an on-the-go tube format – and cashew milk yogurts.
The spreads are made by blending European almonds with filtered water. These are then fortified with live, vegan probiotic cultures and left to mature overnight before being seasoned with British sea salt.
Described as having a creamy texture and delicate flavour profile, the spreads can be used in sauces, dips, pancakes, soups, cheesecake and cake frosting, as well on bagels or crackers.
Co-founder of Nush Bethany Eaton said: “Nush is a category innovator and so we are really proud to be the UK’s only live vegan almond milk cheese. There is growing demand for dairy-free cheese and, through our range, British consumers can enjoy a delicious vegan offering that contains 30% pure almonds.
“It is ideal for a multitude of culinary occasions, whether filling sandwiches or cooking up new recipes – we even tested out our recipes on our children – who are always the best critics.”
Nush Spreadable Cheese range is available now for an RRP of £2.75 per 150g tub from Whole Foods Market, Planet Organic, Ocado and Marks & Spencer stores across the UK.
Eaton added: “We feel honoured to have both our cheeses and yogs sit on Marks & Spencer’s shelves; particularly as they are slowly expanding their range of high-end branded products and only listed branded grocery products in 2009 after 125 years of retailing own label products solely. This reflects M&S’s desire to offer more variety, especially in the free-from category.”
