Muniq, a food tech brand created by Uplifting Results Labs founder and CEO, Marc Washington, has raised $8.2 million in a Series A investment round.
Based in Los Angeles, Muniq seeks to address prevalent chronic health conditions by harnessing ‘the power of the gut microbiome’.
The brand’s nutritional shakes are formulated with ingredients such as prebiotic resistant starch, and aim to promote digestive health, improve blood sugar control, support weight management, and more.
Muniq’s latest financing push was backed by investors including Alpha Edison, Acre Venture Partners, former NBA player Baron Davis, and SimplyProtein founder Cathy Richards.
The brand’s newest supporters join The Production Board, a venture foundry which led Muniq’s seed round.
Muniq will use the new funds to expand its portfolio, advance clinical research, build its team, and strengthen brand awareness.
“I created Muniq in honour of my late sister, Monica, who suffered from diabetes and other chronic health issues,” said Muniq founder, Marc Washington.
“It’s always been my aspiration to help people regain control over underlying conditions, with products that can literally transform their health and that actually taste good.
“And personally, as a black founder, I am passionate about Muniq being part of the solution to help address the vast health disparities affecting black and brown communities.”
Nate Redmond, managing partner at Alpha Edison, added: “Muniq has established a solid foundation in science and efficacy based on the rapidly emerging clinical research on the gut microbiome.
“The life-changing results experienced by Muniq customers exemplify the brand’s vast potential to address some of the most pressing health epidemics of our time.”
