The campaign will donate one bowl of oatmeal – up to one million bowls – to Share Our Strength, a non-profit organisation dedicated to ending childhood hunger in America.
“Many children don’t get the nutritious foods they need to stay healthy and perform well in school,” said Pat Nicklin, MD of Share Our Strength. “Families who are fortunate enough to feed their children a healthy breakfast each morning can help us give nutritious oatmeal to families who need it most.”
The campaign began on 12 January 2009 and will continue through 28 February 2009. Consumers can enter the product code on the ‘Start with Substance’ page on Facebook.
“Americans face nearly unprecedented challenges as 2009 begins, and we have to work together to overcome them,” said Mark Schiller, president of Quaker Foods and Snacks. “Quaker has a long history of offering families the uncompromising value of a nutritious breakfast. With this programme, we’re proud to continue the fight against hunger with families and organisations who, like us, want to ensure no child has to go without a nutritious and substantial breakfast.”
On inauguration day, 20 January, Quaker will continue to build momentum for the ‘Start with Substance’ campaign by hosting ‘inauguration watch’ parties across the country in the homes of a dozen of the nation’s most popular and influential bloggers.
The bloggers will help spread the word about the Quaker Oatmeal campaign and encourage American families to answer Barack Obama’s call to help others in time of need.
