Jack Link’s-owned meat snacking brand Peperami has entered into the meat-free category with the launch of its first vegetarian sub-brand: Vegerami.
The brand – which is known for its iconic meat sticks and chicken bites range – aims to attract vegetarians and flexitarians with its new meat-free snack.
Made from pea protein, Vegerami Chick’nless Bites offers a chicken-free vegetarian snack and comes in Smokin’ and Pep’d Up (coated in a tikka-style glaze) flavours.
Each 40g single pack contains less than 134 calories per portion and can be eaten as an on-the-go snack or incorporated into lunches.
Laura Trivulzio, marketing director of Peperami and Jack Link’s, said: “At 90% penetration, we are a nation of meat eaters, but as the flexitarian trend gains momentum, there’s never been a better time to introduce a healthier, meat-free snack to cater to young adults and families – particularly with ‘feeling good’ cited as the key motivation for meat free choices.
“We believe our new Vegerami range will significantly contribute to category growth, as the meat-free and meat snacking categories grow side by side.”
The Vegerami range is initially available in Tesco stores across the UK and retails for £1.
