Pernod Ricard has developed a new bottle for its Plymouth Gin brand that it says will save 60 tonnes of carbon each year.
The redesign has eliminated all single-use plastic from the bottle and reduced the overall weight of the glass by 15%. The new pack will roll out from this month across Plymouth Gin’s full range worldwide.
The redesigned bottle is said to optimise “the most recognisable elements of the bottle’s current design”, including the shape. The monk that can be found at the bottom of the bottle was previously applied by a plastic label and is now embossed directly onto the glass.
Other improvements that have been implemented include updating the closure from PVC to recyclable PET and introducing paper labels.
“The new bottle design is just one of many new initiatives Plymouth Gin will unveil this year in its journey to ensuring sustainability is front and centre,” said Toni Ingram, global brand director for Plymouth Gin.
“Plymouth Gin has already made great strides in this area with the distillery using 100% renewable electricity and ensuring our gin botanicals are recycled via an anaerobic digestion power plant to turn waste into energy.”
