The company, also responsible for Ron Jon Surf Shop premium waters, has partnered with Utah-based Mount Olympus Waters to reintroduce Kwencher flavoured water into the US market.
The partnership will see Power Trip handle distribution and marketing, while Mount Olympus will be left to manage production of the beverage.
Kwencher was first manufactured by Mount Olympus over a decade ago. The beverage received scathing comments from reviewers before being discontinued in 2006. US website BevNET reviewed the beverage as “just plain horrible, with obnoxious packaging and overwhelming sweetness”.
However, the company points out that such negative feedback didn’t result in the drink’s demise: “Kwencher gained national distribution and widespread popularity in the US under specific licensing agreements,” according to a spokesperson. “When internal financial issues with its co-packer surfaced, the brand was taken back by Mount Olympus Waters.”
Nevertheless, Kwencher is now back with a new marketing push to ensure the product regains its relevance in the marketplace. It’s unclear whether the still spring water brand with its splash of fruit flavour has benefited from a reformulation, though the labelling and packaging are similar to before.
William C Bailey, president and owner of Mount Olympus Waters, said: “We saw how strong and how much brand loyalty Kwencher had with consumers, and with the Power Trip partnership we believe we can get back to the national market penetration we once had.”
“Kwencher is the perfect product for us to align with to extend the Power Trip reach to a younger audience and their parents,” added Power Trip Beverages president, Doug Stuart. “If the positive response to the product at the recent NACS show is any indication, we should see a strong performance from Kwencher.”
Kwencher contains 100% of the daily requirement of vitamin C, and is available in six flavours; berry, cherry, strawberry lemonade, orange creme, kiwi strawberry and strawberry vanilla.
