Israeli start-up The Mushroom Benefit will roll out a line of sachets that are designed to add flavour to soups, stews, sauces or marinades.
Called Cuisine Bags, the patent-pending range contains a blend of mushrooms as well as natural seasoning and flavours.
Three variants will be available: Asian, Italian and classic. These infusions were formulated to include a blend of herbs such as basil or lemongrass to satisfy both western and eastern taste buds.
The mesh sachets offer a plant-based, clean-label alternative to traditional powdered soup stocks. According to The Mushroom Benefit, they also make a quick-fix solution for preparing sophisticated cuisine.
Mira Weigensberg, CEO and co-founder of The Mushroom Benefit, said: “As consumers, we are exposed daily to a glut of cooking TV shows, chef blogs and restaurants. Is it any wonder that we all want to cook like chefs and receive compliments from our family and friends, as well as benefitting from all the health advantages of using natural ingredients and herbs?”
Weigensberg added: “Our product is vegan-friendly, contains zero sugar and sodium, and no added MSG or artificial colouring or flavouring; it only contains natural ingredients. Moreover, the mushrooms’ umami factor significantly lowers the need to enhance savoury flavour with salt.”
Three flavours will be available as of June: classic, Italian and Asian.
Each sachet is said to contain “a complex balance of mushroom goodness”, infusing natural, full-bodied flavours of umami and additional herbs to enrich home-cooked dishes. The Mushroom Benefit selected a mix of exotic mushrooms, principally shiitake and black truffle, to deliver maximum taste.
According to the start-up, immersing one sachet, directly or after steeping in hot water, yields enough flavour to enrich more than a litre of product.
“Preparing a sophisticated and healthy meal requires effort, knowledge, and time spent pre-planning, cutting, soaking, filtering, spicing and preparing a stock,” said Tal Leizer, CEO of Practical Innovations, an innovation engine behind the development of the Cuisine Bags.
“That’s too much trouble and time-consuming for many of us in a life that is overly crowded with other demands. These small sachets are designed to bring the mushrooms’ essence to the dining table with minimal effort and maximum indulgence.”
Each Cuisine Bag package contains five sachets and the bags themselves are made of 100% wholly biodegradable corn fibre.
The Mushroom Benefit will launch the new line at the Summer Fancy Foods Show, New York, in June.
