UK importer and processor Sykes Seafood has entered an agreement to buy Klaas Puul, the shrimp division of Dutch Seafood Company (DSC), in a deal which will create a €300 million pan-European seafood business.
As a result of the deal, the combined companies will offer customers expertise in all species of shrimp with a wide range of products in chilled and frozen formats for the retail, food service and manufacturing sectors.
According to the privately owned company Sykes Seafood, Klaas Puul will complement Syke’s operations in the UK, and will provide a solid background for future growth and allow greater efficiencies in sourcing and production expertise.
Under DSC’s ownership, Klaas Pull has continued to grow and has benefited from capital investment to further support its infrastructure within its processing factories in Volendam, Edam and Tangier, Morocco.
The agreement will also enable DSC to focus on accelerating the growth of Foppen, its smoked salmon activities.
Sykes Seafood has said it is looking forward to its future with Klaas Puul and continuing to build a respected, progressive business that supports the industry.
The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of February 2020, subject to regulatory approval. However, the two businesses will work together with immediate effect to ensure a smooth transition for Klaas Puul and its customers, suppliers and employees.
