Univar Solutions has been appointed by Valio to exclusively distribute the Finnish dairy manufacturer’s lactose-free milk powders to a number of European markets.
The global ingredient distributor says Valio’s deal with its Univar Solutions B.V. subsidiary will create opportunities across diverse sectors of the European food industry.
Eila Pro powders can be utilised by manufacturers of products such as confectionery, ice cream, dairy, bakery and ready meals, who are seeking to make lactose-free claims.
Made using fresh Finnish milk, the powders reportedly provide an unchanged milk mineral composition and a natural taste. Products made using Eila lactose-free ingredients are also said to aid in digestive comfort and to offer protein enrichment and sugar reduction benefits.
Under the deal, Univar Solutions will distribute to countries including Sweden, the UK, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Greece.
“With increased consumer awareness of digestive wellness and market growth in ‘free from’ products across Europe, our partnership with Valio on their Eila range of lactose-free ingredients provides Univar Solutions with an exciting, new opportunity,” said Simon Atkins, industry director of food ingredients in Europe, Middle East and Africa for Univar Solutions.
“These unique ingredients will further expand our portfolio and enhance our value to all customers seeking to develop innovative recipes with a lactose-free claim across multiple categories.”
Timo Pajari, SVP international sales at Valio, added: “We are excited to partner with Univar Solutions in expanding our footprint in the lactose-free food space.
“With their extensive market reach, technical expertise and collaborative approach to supplier partnerships, together, we are looking forward to a productive and fulfilling journey.”
The deal with Univar Solutions follows news of a partnership between Valio and Palmer Holland for the distribution of Valio Eila lactose-free powders to the US market.
